Yesterday, Governor Hochul laid out an ambitious vision for New York and rightly acknowledged the challenges that hundreds of thousands of minimum wage workers face and the support necessary to ensure all New Yorkers can access the improved quality of life they deserve. The NYC Employment and Training Coalition remains encouraged by the Hochul administration’s continued commitment to workforce development providers who connect New Yorkers throughout the state to innovative and scalable job programs that help families succeed and communities thrive.
We applaud the governor’s investment in the things foundational to stable households, especially affordable housing and mental health, and we are ready to work with our partners to bring about the reforms that are necessary to reduce the barriers, complexities and statutory requirements that have prevented New Yorkers on public assistance from securing and maintaining long-term employment and financial stability. A fairer, more inclusive economy that leaves no New Yorker behind will only be the result of our collective dedication to the intersection of economic and workforce development, and our sustained investment in the resources that ensure our shared security and prosperity.
